Selecting and building facilities that meet the ever-tightening specifications of sensitive tools and equipment can be a daunting endeavor.  Each tool’s requirements are unique and there are often many dimensions to consider.  VEC is experienced in the evaluation, design, and retrofitting of new and existing facilities including laboratories, fabrication facilities, and clean rooms.  VEC works directly with site owners, architectural firms, construction firms, and OEMs throughout all phases of the design and construction process.   VEC is committed to ensuring our clients deliver on their projects by providing the following services:

  • Complete site survey of proposed laboratory, fabrication facility, or clean room locations to assess suitability and prioritize tool placement
  • Facilities design consulting for wall and ceiling construction, equipment selection and placement (vacuum pumps, chillers, compressors, etc.), and tool layout
  • Client support for work with the architectural teams, construction teams, and other key stakeholders to communicate project and tool requirements
  • Product selection consulting for facility support products, vibration isolation tables, acoustic enclosures, EMI cancellation systems, and other products as required
  • Bid collection and evaluation to analyze the cost, features, and applicability of each product and system for selection by the client

Informed vibration, magnetic field, and acoustic noise specifications for sensitive tools and equipment

 

Developing a vibration, magnetic field, or acoustic noise specification for a sensitive tool or piece of equipment is a delicate balancing act.  On one hand, setting a specification that is too tight limits the number of locations where a tool can be placed, thereby potentially reducing sales.  On the other hand, setting a specification that is too loose risks severe degradation in tool performance resulting in weeks, months, or even years of unscheduled work for teams.  VEC collaborates with clients to quickly and efficiently develop informed vibration, magnetic field, and acoustic noise specifications that are tailored to the performance characteristics of each tool.  The specification development services VEC provides include:

  • Line or curve vibration and/or acoustic specification that is easily communicated to customers
  • Nuanced “Response Calculator” that calculates a tools response to different frequencies of vibration and acoustic noise increasing the certainty of tool performance

Facilities Problem Solving

Identifying and addressing the root cause environmental issues impacting tool performance

Modern laboratories, clean rooms, and semiconductor manufacturing facilities are filled with sources of vibration, acoustic noise, AC electromagnetic fields, and DC electromagnetic fields.  Adding further complexity is the frequent movement and addition of new tools and sources that can degrade tool performance.  Remediating these issues with isolation tables, acoustic enclosures, and magnetic field cancellation systems can be costly and time consuming if a source is impacting the performance of multiple tools.  VEC’s goal is to locate and remediate the sources of vibration, acoustic noise, AC electromagnetic fields, and DC electromagnetic fields as efficiently and cost effectively as possible by providing the following services:

  • Vibration and acoustic noise source identification by matching the vibration or acoustic signature of a source to the vibration or acoustic noise measured at the tool or microscope location
  • Identification and reduction of EMI fields through the identification of ground to neutral shorts, miswirings, or other wiring issues in a facility
  • Recommendations to eliminate or reduce the impact of vibration, acoustic noise, AC electromagnetic fields, and DC electromagnetic fields
  • Product selection consulting for facility support products, vibration isolation tables, acoustic enclosures, EMI cancellation systems, and other products as required
